Rossville School Board Position Still Unknown

With all other races in the county called on Tuesday evening, there was one that did not have a declared winner.

Rossville Consolidated School District had a battle for the three seats that were up for re-election. Incumbent Joe Hufford kept his seat for Clay Township, winning against newcomer Dillon Rothrock. Brent Michael won his first seat on the school board against incumbent Julia Mink in Owen Township.

District 19, or, the town of Rossville, still doesn’t know who won the final seat in question. The unofficial vote tally is 443 for incumbent Jentry Pendleton and 443 votes for challenger Janet Blackburn. Both candidates were registered as write-in candidates.

According to what KNS Radio has found, the next step is to count any provisional votes that exist. This will not happen until at least Friday. If there is still a tie, the rules state that the decision will be left up to Clinton County Clerk, Stephanie Harshberger.

What started as a push for more transparency and more discussion at board meetings has resulted in at least one new board member.

“We are so excited about the results and know that this is the beginning of the change our community needs.” said one parent. “We’ve already seen increased communication from the school since we started asking a year ago. We appreciate this, and there is still so much room for improvement.”

KNS will continue to follow this story and report when there is a declared winner.
